Loughborough University is a public research university located in the market town of Loughborough and has the largest single-site green campus in the UK and is situated in the county of Leicestershire in the East Midlands of England .
Founded in 1909 as a small Technical Institute offering courses in technical subjects, science and art, it now has 19 different schools and departments. It was awarded its Charter in 1966 making it the Loughborough University of Technology before assuming its current name in 1996.
Loughborough is one of the UK’s leading universities, with an international reputation for excellence in teaching and research, strong links with industry, and an unrivalled reputation for sport. Over 17,000 students and staff from over 100 different countries help to create an exciting campus atmosphere and a strong sense of community
Loughborough’s central UK location puts it just 90mins away from London, surrounded by beautiful English countryside. The stunning 438-acre, single-site campus is a safe and secure base for studies, with plenty of open space, gardens and sports areas. Many of degrees are designed and sponsored by industry, ensuring course material is commercially relevant and underpinned by the latest research. Loughborough’s graduates are highly employable as a result and consistently targeted by the UK’s top recruiters.
Despite a clear technological history, it is impossible to talk about Loughborough University without mentioning sport. It is both nationally and internationally recognised for its excellence in this department.
The university’s outstanding sporting facilities come complete with an indoor athletics centre, an outdoor stadium and a 50m swimming pool.
Loughborough’s library contains over 500,000 books, 90,000 bound serials and access to around 30,000 electronic journals. It is made up of four floors with 250 workstations and its most rented book is Modern Banking Theory and Practice by Shelagh Hefferman.
With the launch of Loughborough University London, the institutions has increased its postgraduate presence with a campus at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in Stratford.

English Language Requirements
· The standard university IELTS English language requirement is 6.5 overall, with 6.0 in each individual element.
· Some departments may require higher levels English language, please refer to the university website for details.
· Loughborough offers a number of pre-sessional English language programmes for students who score below this level.
UG: • ICSE/CBSE Board standard XII and Maharastra (e.g. Mumbai/Pune) Junior Year Arts/Commerce stream minimum aggregate of 80%, Science stream minimum aggregate of 80-85%. • West Bengal Board Standard XII exams Arts/Commerce stream minimum aggregate of 70%, Science stream minimum aggregate of 70-75%. • Other national Boards standard XII exams Considered on an individual basis but an aggregate score of at least 85/90% usually required.
PG: We usually require you to have, or expect to obtain, at least a British 2:1 Honours degree or its international equivalent.
Accommodation for International Students
· International students are guaranteed a room in university accommodation for the first year of study, providing they make Loughborough their firm choice and register for accommodation by the specified deadline.
· Students will also be guaranteed a further year in university accommodation providing they apply for their accommodation before the January deadline of that year.
Accommodation fees vary according to the type of room and Hall chosen. All accommodation includes heating and lighting.
There are a number of prestigious competitive scholarships, bursaries and other awards available to international students at all levels of study. Many of these are only available to Loughborough University students.
The University has strong links with sponsors and awarding institutions which also provide support for Loughborough students.
Scholarships range between 10% and 25% of the programme tuition fee, and are set against the tuition fee. Scholarships are normally awarded on the basis of outstanding academic achievement and potential.
Applicants to all schools will automatically be considered for a scholarship - provided the initial application is complete and contains all the relevant information (degree transcripts, references etc.).
There is no separate scholarship application process. Applicants will normally be informed if they are to be awarded a scholarship with their offer of a place, or shortly after they receive their offer.
