If you're the outdoor type, Bangor could be the place for you. It's close to the sea and the mountains. The cost of living is low, and part-time work is fairly easy to come by, so it might be easier on your wallet than some places, too. The town - actually one of the UK's smallest cities - has a significant proportion of Welsh speakers. Founded in 1884, Bangor University has a long tradition of academic excellence and a strong focus on the student experience. Around 11,000 students currently study at the University, with 650 teaching staff based within twenty three Academic Schools.
The University is made up of five Colleges housing twenty-three academic Schools, as well as over fifty specialist research centres, enabling the provision of courses spanning the Arts, Humanities and Sciences. University offers hundreds of courses across the arts and the sciences.
The University’s recent investments in facilities and services include the Pontio Arts and Innovation centre, a multi-million pound development which includes teaching facilities a theatre, cinema, bar, cafes and an innovation space. As for the university itself, major investment has provided more student accommodation and it is expanding academically, too, with new courses introduced every year. The university counts Danny Boyle, the Oscar-winning director of Slumdog Millionaire, among its alumni.
